Memory circuit elements with the moniker Memelements include memristor, memcapacitor and meminductor. These are newly proposed circuit elements whose electrical properties namely: memristance, memcapacitance and meminductance respectively, depend on their previous history of charge or flux associated to them. In other words, they are circuit elements with memory having huge potential to revolutionize electronic industries in various applications. These names are extension of the three existing fundamental circuit elements, namely resistor, capacitor and inductor respectively. This paper presents an insight into these memelements including their device technology, modelling and applications. To explore the signatures of these circuit elements, we derived their models and the corresponding responses are observed. The paper unravels the criticisms on the existence of memelements especially their classification as fundamental circuit elements. It is well established that memelements are not fundamental circuit elements but rather another set of elements potentially useful in bio-inspired networks, nonvolatile memory, chaotic systems, and many other applications.
